About
I’m Guy Jackson, an iPad artist.
As a London resident of many years, I’ve always been fascinated by our stations. They form such a central part of our lives – almost without us noticing – as we travel in and around town, day after day, for both work and play.
As a designer myself, the iconic design style and architecture of the London Underground, developed by giants such as Frank Pick and Charles Holden in the early 20th century, has a particular resonance. Our Tube stations are instantly recognisable, the world over.
Drawing stations, using Procreate and the Apple Pencil 2 on my iPad, enables me to capture their architectural presence, plus a flavour of the incessant human activity that flows in and around these transport hubs.
My first project was my local station at Palmers Green in north London, which I drew – brick by brick! – from a number of photographic studies and drawings over about 80 hours.
The next challenge was drawing stations along the Piccadilly Line extension, from Bounds Green to Cockfosters. Meeting the station supervisors and seeing the pride and interest they take in their places of work has given me even more insight into the important part these buildings play in our communities.
Paddington Station, King's Cross Station and Covent Garden Underground are the most recent additions.
